Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most famous, difficult and beautiful trekking in the world. Torrents crossed on suspended bridges, spectacular valleys between the 7,000-meter-high slopes, Buddhist monasteries and Hindu temples and, above all, the special trekking experience at altitude make Everest Base Camp Trek a must for anyone who is seeking adventure, photo and unique cultural experiences. Lukla Airport, the picturesque Namche Bazzar, the silence of Tengboche Monastery, the spectacle of the Ama Dablam pyramid (aka the Himalayan Matterhorn), Kallapathar’s ascension and unforgettable views of Everest at sunset, the fantastic energy of the 4800m Sanctuary or the encounter with climbing sherpas that have often climbed Everest are just some of the stories of the road to the Everest Base Camp.

*Everest Base Camp is a trekking. It does not require specific mountain training, but a good physical condition is recommended.

Flight Kathmandu-Lukla and trekking to Phakding (2652m)

Early in the morning we fly to Lukla. This flight is an experience in itself, with Tenzing-Hillary airport at 2800 meters altitude. The landing track has a 12% inclination, so the difference between the start and end of the track is about 60 meters, say the Nepalese! The trek to Phakding brings us beside the massive Kusum Kangaru.

Flight time: 30 minutes, trekking time: 2.5 hours

Trekking to Namche Bazaar (3440m)

The road takes us through pine and cedar forests to the famous Namche Bazaar, a historical trade point, where the Nepalese and Tibetans used to trade in salt, dry meat and textiles. Beyond the beauty of the area, Namche Bazaar is the best place to buy traditional Nepalese objects and visit a museum of sherpa culture. It is known as the gateway to Everest. We will spend two days here for acclimatization, socialization and shopping. On the way, we can see the first glimpses of Everest and neighboring peaks.

Trekking Namche Bazaar – Everest View Hotel and return

After breakfast, we head to an acclimatization trek to Everest View Hotel. We arrive at the statue of Tenzing Norgay, then the road passes by Syangboche (3720m), with its utilitarian airport, where we can see Lhotse (8414m) and Ama Dablam (6856m), Cholatse, Tabuche, Tamserku or Kantega.

Trekking to the Tengboche Monastery (3860m)

We start the day on an almost flat trail that takes us across Everest and descends deep into the Dudh Kosi Valley, where we then go to the famous Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual center of the Khumbu region, which we visit. The climb is long, but the stunning scenery with the Ama Dablam massif, and when it’s clear, even with Everest, it compensates for the effort.

Trekking to Dingboche (4410m)

Day begins with a descent through the forest, across the Imja Khola valley and go to Pangboche (3900m). Today is probably the most exciting day of trekking because we can admire views of the Ama Dablam, Lhotse and other peaks over 6000 meters. The road crosses beautiful grasslands and we reach Dingboche, in the area known as “summer valley”.

Trekking Dingboche-Nagerjun and return

It is the second period required for acclimatization and we will do a trekking of 6 hours to 5100 meters. It will be a physically demanding day, because we will climb some steep slopes at a rather high altitude. The reward comes from the exceptional landscapes of the Pheriche Valley and from the possibility of seeing Makalu (8481m), the fifth eightthousand-er of the world.

Trekking to Lobuche (4910m)

On the way to Lobuche, we go to the Trekkers Aid Post in Pheriche (4240m), where volunteer doctors from the Western world offer consultations and treatments, but also research on the effects of altitude on human metabolism. We climb the valley, then go down to Lobuche (4910m).

Trekking to Gorekshep (5180m)

The road runs through the meadows to the Khumbu Glacier. Right in front of us is Kalapattar, the most advanced point where you can admire the entire southern face of Everest. It is the day we reach the highest altitude of the entire journey, 5545m, the best viewing point of Everest and other peaks in the beautiful Himalayan chain like Lhotse and Nuptse. Here, on Kalapattar, the world’s tallest webcam is installed.

Trekking to Everest Base Camp (5400m)

It will be a difficult day, not because the altitude difference gained is too high, but because of many ups & downs on the route. But we get to the Everest Base Camp, the place from where climb of the Everest starts. Khumbu Glacier and its ice cascades make it worth the effort so far. We spend day and night in one of the world’s most exciting places, the base camp of the highest mountain on Earth. At night we sleep in the tent, with the unmistakable noises of the Khumbu Glacier movement in our ears.

TECHNICAL DATA

  • Battery devices (phones, cameras, e-readers, etc.) can be charged for a small fee in the lodges where we accommodate. Likewise, water is purchased for a fee.
  • evereSTory is a trek, so it does not require specific technical mountain training. A good physical condition is advisable.
  • The Nepal visa can be received at the airport and costs 40USD / 30 days.
  • No vaccines are needed
  • Nepal is a safe country for tourists, and the earthquake destruction of 2015 has been removed from trekking routes.
  • In many lodges on the trail you can take a shower for free and in some, counter-cost (5-6 USD).
  • A porter is shared by two people, so each baggage must not exceed 14kg.
  • We recommend buying local GSM SIM cards because they are much cheaper than roaming. For example, one minute talk time in roaming costs about 2.5 euro, while international calls on a Nepalese card are about 0.5-0.8USD/min
